BACK IN ACTION REHAB > Myofascial Release

What is Fascia? Fascia is the tough connective tissue that surrounds every cell, muscle, bone, nerve, and organ in the body. It spreads throughout the body in a three dimensional web from head to foot without interruption. A trauma or injury to one part of the body can affect systems throughout the body as the fascia acts like the concentric layers of an onion. These layers slowly tighten until one loses flexibility and spontaneity of motion.

What is Myofascial Release? Myofascial Release is a gentle, sustained stretch that releases the fascial tissue. It is a whole body approach to treatment. It can be effective and helpful for patients with a wide variety of diagnosis, including but not limited to: low back, neck pain, shoulder injuries, post surgical patients, fibromyalgia, burn injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, and chronic headaches.

How will Myofascial Release help me and / or my patients? Myofascial Release can free structures that are producing pain and reducing function. Our clinic combines Myofascial Release treatment with home stretching programs to maintain the releases done in the clinic. Gentle range of motion and strengthening programs will assist the patient in learning to use their new motion and flexibility effectively. This will in turn allow them to increase their ability to participate in functional activities.
